1 IN 8 BILLION / How it works
The model behind a life.
1 in 8 Billion uses an authorized snapshot of the browser game with its original simulation rules and data. Our brand, page design and editorial copy belong to this edition.
Birth and country data
The active game draws from 194 countries and regions using 2023 births in UN World Population Prospects 2024. The birth card shows household background, parents and country comparisons. National indicators add context for education, income, work and health.
An ongoing simulation
The same life state continues through each year. Education, work, family, money, choices and mortality interact in the game engine. A seeded random generator makes a starting draw reproducible; choosing different responses can produce a different life.
What the data cannot tell you
National averages do not describe an individual. Characters, dialogue, events and scenes are fictional, and the model includes assumptions. The game is neither a personal lifespan prediction nor a ranking of people or countries.
Local and online features
The core simulation runs on your device. Browser saves and local backups work without an account. Online accounts, cross-device storage, payments, paid keepsakes and the public life wall remain unconnected in this edition.
